Our local outfitters won’t let bad weather happen to you! In fact, they’re ready to make outdoor recreation the highlight of your visit to Grand Marais. Thinking about camping, canoeing? Even if you have much or all of your own equipment, our outfitters can set you up with new maps, menus, food, and items forgotten at home. If camping is new to you, just bring your dream, and let the experts do the rest. Contact them before you come for advice on clothing and what NOT to bring, then rest easy. They’ll provide you with tents, food, gear for sleeping, camping, cooking – and the expertise, directions and maps that will make you confident and comfortable. Kayaking, sailing, fishing and biking enthusiasts at all levels find equipment, maps and instruction right in town. So chase a stiff wind as it races over the water. Get personal with the Lake Superior shoreline, the cobble beaches and fascinating basaltic outcroppings from your kayak. Be rewarded with incredible vistas accessible from your mountain bike. Challenge your endurance with climbing gear. We’ve got lots of folks to help you on your way (and back!). Come winter, the equipment changes, but getting the right gear is still a simple process. In Grand Marais, we think that winter is a quick route back to childhood’s carefree ways. If you can walk like a duck, you can snowshoe. If you learned to ice skate, cross-country skiing will come easy. Snowmobiling is a thrill. Dog sledding appeals to the kid (and animal lover) in all of us.
