Skiing and Snowshoeing

Nordic Skiing

You can be skiing on world-class groomed and tracked cross-country ski trails within minutes of Grand Marais . More than 400 kilometers of groomed trails make up one of the finest ski networks in the Midwest. Skis whisper in the tracks past moose yards, tall pines, snow-laced spruce, scenic vistas, and old trappers' trails. Visit Volks Ski for more information.

Snowshoeing

An increasingly popular winter sport on the North Shore. Whether you follow one of the many hiking trails or the shoreline, or venture onto unbeaten paths, snowshoeing is one of the best ways to experience the beauty and solitude of winter in the wilderness. Whatever your skill level, the Grand Marais area offers numerous opportunities for the beginner to the expert. If you don't have your own snowshoes and want to try this winter activity, rentals are available from local outfitters and stores.

Downhill (Alpine) Skiing

Lutsen Mountains offers 92 sweeping runs over four mountains, each with its own distinct flavor. Add Mid-America's only gondola, and you have real mountain skiing with the true character of a Western ski resort - without the airfare.

Ski packages are offered at many Grand Marais area properties.
