We finally have that cover of snow that says "Come and play!". All trails - for snowmobiling and cross country skiing - are prepared for another exhilarating season. Nothing like pure white snow beneath the bluest of skies, or brilliant constellations, to make summer lovers think twice about the beauty of a Grand Marais winter.

Meanwhile, nothing wrong with a good book (maybe from Drury Lane Books or the Lake Superior Trading Post) to enjoy by the fire of a cabin's woodburning stove or the vacation condo's stone fireplace. Visiting our shops and galleries is a great way to warm up fingers and toes, and our restaurants are ready to fill you up with sturdy North Shore cuisine.

Event Calendar

Coming up...

Volks Ski fest begins on Saturday, January 23rd with a non-competitive Nordic ski event designed to have a skier on every kilometer of Cook County's 400k of professionally groomed ski trails that day. For 9 days, you can be as competitive or relaxed about trails as you wish! The variety of skiing, snowshoeing, guided ski tours, dog sledding, live music, horse-drawn sleigh rides, great food, and special clinics (including one on skijoring) makes the best winter getaway imaginable. Who needs white sand, a beach chair and drinks with tiny umbrellas? Details at www.volksskifest.com Sponsored by the Cook County Events and Visitors Bureau.
