Harbor, refuge, safe haven? Yes, it’s all of that, but our harbor is also everyone’s favorite place to anchor to life’s most basic element. Stroll Harbor Park, skip rocks, photograph the otter family, take in the beauty of sailboats and the vast waters beyond the lighthouse. Here, lovely traditions flourish - wedding party photos, special birthdays, picnics, mugs of coffee at sunrise. The harbor is bordered by downtown Grand Marais, relaxed, inviting, with the patina of worn, painted board here, an outdoor mural there, beautifully designed shop windows everywhere. The backdrop provided by the serrated Sawtooth Mountains creates the feel of an immense amphitheater. No matter the direction you look, the view is arresting.
