Ski and snowshoe
on the north shore and Gunflint Trail
We've got more cross-country ski and snowshoe trails than anywhere else in
Minnesota, and we're not afraid to boast about it! That's what Volks Ski Fest is all
about, in fact-enjoying the 400 kilometers of professionally groomed and absolutely gorgeous trails all across
Cook County.
The event kicks off on Saturday, January 23, with a challenge to ski as many kilometers as you can - or,
if you'd like, to simply enjoy a leisurely ski with other enthusiasts. The week's other activities include:

Gee...it’s not just a ride. Get up close and personal with
these canine creatures in this hands-on exploration of
sled dog handling, dog sledding lore and the modern day
sport of mushing. Experience a working kennel and talk
the talk of the musher as you hit the trail under the tutelage
of weathered mushers and happy dogs.
No two winter adventures are alike!
They’re just like snowflakes—and the more you get, the
better it is. So head on up the shore, where winter means
everything from a quiet cut the through the woods on your
skis, to a roaring fire in your cabin. Plus all the shopping,
dining and sightseeing you could hope for—all under a
beautiful blanket of white. It’s winter, and there’s no better
time to do north.
